Wednesday Already

Well, it's Wednesday again already!

The children are watching Postcards from Buster, so I've got...let's see...22 minutes left to come up with a drama sketch for Sunday. We have a busy weekend ahead, and I want to have other actors perform this week, so I must get them scripts right away. Praying for inspiration...

I got my living room paint job done today! It's a cross between butterscotch and coffee with cream. At the moment, I can't remember what the color name is. It's nice and warm, and goes well with both the woodwork and the leather couch. A week or so ago, I found a really long/wide "swag" (huge length of finished fabric) in a silky deep red/burgundy color that frames my bay window beautifully, so I think that will look really good against the paint color. I don't have too many other decorating ideas at the moment, but I'm really excited to get my living room put together in a way that we will enjoy.

Well after a phone call from Tara, it's already 4:31, so I have to quit here & get to writing the drama sketch. By the way, there were 160 people at church Sunday! PRAISE GOD!!!!!
Comment or email & let us know what you're up to!

Early Saturday

I was freaking out a little last night because I still didn't have a drama written or cast for Sunday. I went to bed at 10:45, and set my alarm for 6. So I got up early this morning, got a sketch written (thanks be to God for inspiring me!), and now I'm catching up on reading some blogs before the little ones (and the big one) find me in the office!

Church news: We're finishing our series about relationships tomorrow. Eric called recent visitors yesterday & found that men really like his messages. This is good! (Not that we want to alienate women, but typically churches draw more women than men. If you "get" the men, you will generally get the women anyway. There's your little bit of church strategy for today) Also, since I haven't done a drama sketch for 2 weeks, people were asking when we'd have one again. There's the pressure... ;-)

Never before have Eric and I rubbed shoulders with soooo MANY people who are seeking God for the first time in their lives! Just yesterday he met with a man who sat right there with him in Perkins and asked God to forgive him and lead his life!! YEAAAH!

Aidan got a nice (very short) haircut yesterday. I tried to use the clippers, but his hair's too fine, and it pulled. So it was a 1/2 inch cut with scissors all the way around. He didn't sit still very well, so it took awhile, but he ate a sucker and played with the clipper supplies, so it worked out. Braden is next, though he's not excited about it.

We bought paint for our living room yesterday, with the cash from a couple of things I returned to Wal Mart. It's some version of light brown. We were going to paint last night, but were too tired. Eric says maybe Monday, but I have a paper to write Monday, so...

Our van is back, but the temp. gauge is reading funny, so we're still watching it.

Tomorrow is the Super Bowl (not that Eric or I really care about football), and 2 families in our church are hosting parties. During half time, we'll be showing a DVD we bought from Sports Spectrum. It's football-related and evangelistic in nature. Praying that people will bring unbelieving friends who might be reached by this message.

Tara is keeping my children today so I can go to the small group leaders lunch with Eric. Nice!

Have a blessed day in which each moment is lived in the Spirit!

The Dictionary According to Aidan Part II

Zippy zippy: zipper
Shutty shutty: the roller blind on his window
warry warry: mommy's big jawlike hair clips (as in, roar-y roar-y--the clips look like dinosaur
teeth, and dinosaurs roar.)

BREAD

At long last...after repeated requests from Tara and now Tammy... the easy (my) way to make bread for the family...

FRENCH BREAD (mixed in machine; baked in oven)

Get out bread maker pan, pour into it 2 1/4 c. lukewarm (room temp. or so) water.

Add a chunk (1.5T.) of room temp. butter.

Loosely spoon flour into 1 c. measure with a giant spoon, level each cup. (6.5 cups flour).

On top, sprinkle 2 T. sugar, 1 T. salt.

Make a little well in the top, add 5 T. yeast (Not touching water. I don't know why.)

Put into bread machine, set cycle for dough, start machine.

After a minute, use a butter knife to help the machine mix the dough. The reason you need to do this is because this recipe is DOUBLE the regular dough recipe. Check back a few minutes later and help stir if needed to be sure the dough forms a ball.

Dough will likely "explode" over the top of the machine as it rises. Prop open the machine lid with a wooden spoon or something, and drape a towel over it to keep dough from drying out.

When there are a few minutes left in the cycle,
1. spray 2 cookie sheets
2. sprinkle flour on counter
3. preheat oven to just a little warm
4. set teapot to boil water

When cycle is done, empty dough onto floured counter, punch it all down & form into a ball, kneading a little bit until it's smooth & there are no air bubbles. Form into French bread loaves of whatever sizes you prefer, or will fit on your pans. If you wish, run a sharp knife across the tops to make a couple of slits.

Put in warm oven to raise, turn oven OFF.
Pour boiling water into a pan on the bottom of the oven, to steam it up & keep the bread from drying out. You can do this again in about 30 minutes. (or not. I usually forget.)

Raise 45 min. or so, CAREFULLY remove from oven (don't jostle the dough--it will fall), preheat oven to 350 or so, and then return to oven & bake.

Bread is done when it is golden & sounds kind of hollow when tapped. Another measure--pick it up; it shouldn't feel super heavy for its size. (I don't know how long to cook it--maybe 20 min.?)

Cool on racks, then wrap well in plastic wrap to store or freeze. Store in a cool place. Use within 2 days, or it will become stale.

Alterative: regular white bread: add 2 T. powdered milk powder to water, add 2 extra Tbs. sugar. Use only 3 c. flour, and put the flour in last, right before the yeast. Use greased loaf pans instead of cookie sheets.

PLEASE: Don't buy your yeast from Cub or Wal Mart. Let me know & I'll get you some SUPER cheap from Sam's club. Or you can just come & get a cupful from me. I have some that's expiring (thanks, Kristin!).

Big Trouble

Hello,
So here's a prayer request: We just had our van diagnosed with a bad gasket somewhere in the cooling system (this is not the first time for this. GM really did a number on these gaskets), and we're looking at about $650 in repairs, because for this one dumb gasket, guess what... They have to take the whole top of the engine off. The good news: they lowered labor for us, knocking off about $150 from the original $800 quote. Also, we trust these guys--have been working with them for a few years.

So... I'm headed out to buy a lottery ticket. JUST KIDDING!

Choosing to walk by faith and not worry.

Oops... had to choose again for the next moment. Gulp. Pray that I can keep choosing faith!

Have a good one!

Small Group Last Night

We had our second meeting of small group last night. It was at someone else's home, so there was much more space. Chrissie's friends Donnie and Wes came. They'd tried Kris & Josh's group last week, but most of the people there have been Christians "forever". Our group is much more suited to them. It is really neat being part of a group where almost everyone is a new believer. Eric is allowing them to voice their different answers to questions ("Is Jesus the only way to heaven, or do all religions pretty much lead to the same place?") and then he shares scripture, asks more questions, and lets the obvious conclusion based on scripture come forth.

I prayed for each of the women in the group last night, as we split up men/women and shared joys & trials of the past week. I was surprised and touched when one of the girls (of the "apprentice" leaders couple) asked if she could pray for me. Much needed.

Sarah & Jamie Murillo from church watched our kids and the 2 little girls we watched last week (her mom needed to work & she has no childcare). It was a huge blessing to both us and the other mom.

Well it's 12:32, so I must go make some PBJ sandwiches!

Catching Up

Well it's Tuesday, and I'm catching up on laundry and cleaning. So much goes on around here. It's NUTS!

The meal-sharing group I'm a part of (have I mentioned this before?) is exchanging meals today (& yesterday). Veeeerrrry cool. I made a GIANT batch of chili yesterday while I (tried) to do homework. Sunday night I cooked 2 big pans of chicken thighs & cut 'em up & combined it with alfredo sauce. Then I bagged all of it in gallon bags & froze it. So between yesterday and today, I'm giving 2 meals with each other lady in the group in exchange for 2 meals from them. Tara's entire family (except Trig!) is sick, so she's going to do hers later this week, but Mary made meatloaf and a tater tot casserole (or "hot dish," as they call it up here). Tammy made a chicken stuffing "hot dish" and calzones. YUM! Tara is making enchiladas and something else--I can't remember. I welcome your ideas (just post a comment on this blog) as to good main dishes to freeze.

Oooh...Eric's home from a meeting!

Have a good day!
